speak-japanese-and-shit

Planning a ski trip to the Land of the Rising Sun in the near future? Like reading hilarious tips, anecdotes, and general silliness? Need something to make your friends laugh and spruce up your overall coffee-table game? Well, if you answered yes to any of those questions, then have I got the book for you! Speak Japanese and Sh*t is the first installment in the Talk Good Travel Series from Tahoe City-based author Erinna McCarthy.

Speak Japanese and Sh*t will help even the novice traveler navigate the oft-confusing world that is traveling in Japan. From the basic, being polite, staying clean, to the slightly more out there, hitting the slopes and night on the town, the easy to navigate sections in this book will let you and your friends do everything from pay together to buy a potential new friend a drink. “Isho ni haraimas” and “ippai ogorasete itadakemasen ka?”, respectively.

Thanks to the handy English translations on every page of this book, in no time at all, you’ll go from not being able to communicate, to sounding like a toddler who’s just had a root canal! Not to worry though, if anyone snickers at your crude pronunciation you can always just tell them to “urusai!” (shut up!) Should your crude pronunciations and generally exuberant behavior get you into trouble, don’t worry, there’s help for that too in the form of my personal favorite phrase from the book “watashi no tomodachi o goyosha kudasai. Kare wa okina kebukai America-jin des.” (Please forgive my friend. He is a big, hairy American.)

If all of this sounds too good to be true, and you simply must get your paws on a copy of Speak Japanese and Sh*t, you’re in luck. Granite Chief will be hosting a book signing right here in the store on February 12th, starting at 4pm. You can come and meet Erinna in person, get her to sign your book, and have her answer all your burning questions, such as “the best place to ski powder” and “really, what does button #8 do on the toilet?” Hint, the answer to one of these questions can be found in this book!

Is this just what you needed for your upcoming trip? Order your copy of Speak Japanese and Sh*t: A ski and snowboard guide to language and culture here.
