Drew Hartley is a dedicated Freeride skier! He has spent six years competing on the Sugar Bowl team. He also participates on the Alder Creek Middle School Cross Country team. This summer, Drew spent two weeks training at water ramp camp in Park City, working on Cork 9’s, Rodeo 5’s, Misty 5/7s and Lincoln Loops. Drew can perform an endless number of tricks in the park including
· 720s
· Lead hand
· True tail 540’s
· Mute
· 360s, and 180s.
His goal is to hit a Cork 7. He also thrives on Big Mountain Skiing and loves to hike the back country. This year, you can see Drew compete at Crested Butte and Grand Targhee. His goals are to finish in the top 10 at Grand Targhee, top 25 at Crested Butte, and to hit a Cork9. Drew wants to continue progressing in his skiing and finish top 3 in a major Big Mountain competition in the future. When not perfecting his tricks in the park, Drew enjoys mountain biking, surfing, whitewater kayaking, long board skateboarding, and soccer. We can’t wait to see Drew compete in the 08-09 season!

Sugar Bowl Ski Resort
Drew competed in a new competition at Sugar Bowl called “Working Man Wednesdays”. This is a cool new series, that mimics the classic basketball game P.I.G. The way it works is all participants line up at the top of the park. One designated leader starts the contest out, by choosing a trick. The subsequent skiiers all need to do the same trick and land it. If they do not do so, they receive a letter. Once they have all three letters (PIG) they are out of the contest. Drew placed third in last week’s Working Man Wednesdays competition. This is an ongoing series which happens on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month, through the end of the season.

This past weekend, Drew competed in a Big Mountain Competition. He had an unfortunate fall where he lost his ski and slid on his back. Because of this he finished 10th out of 30. Although Drew did not walk away from a win from this one, he did win the “Sick Bird Award”. He was given the Sick Bird for the attempted trick- a 360 off a cliff/wind lip. That’s pretty sick!
